If you own (or wish to buy) a 502 and want Swaymar to work their magic on it, for the truly discerning owner this has got to be the way to go! Combining all the torque benefits of the longer stroke of the 496 cid, with the large bore of the 502. Particularly on the larger heavier boats, like the thunder-hawks etc. these engines will give all the sparkling performance you could ever wish for, with BHP and even more importantly torque surpassing most twin turbo diesels but all the response, silky smoothness and flexibility of petrol engines, these engines really will turn your boat into a dream machine.
A glance at the improvement in BHP and specification will show that this engine gives surprisingly good value for money. Like all Swaymar special series engines this too delivers bags more torque and BHP several hundred rpm lower down the rev range than its factory replacement counterpart. Specifically designed for Hi-torque, this engine is perfect for marine applications. These carefully considered engineering improvements result in a considerably faster boat but without the usual fuel penalties associated with more power.
Volvo Penta applications, will almost certainly need a drive leg suitable for turbo diesel torque levels. Mercruiser applications, we recommend a consultation with our expert on Mercruiser out-drives.
All of our engines include a free inlet manifold inspection and reconditioning to 'as good as new'.
Note: If prior to inspection your existing manifold is un serviceable, a new one will be required.
Most but not all engines that are sea water cooled will require a new block upon rebuild.
We strongly recommend to all of our customers to consider trying a 1 piece stainless exhaust system and do away with the fear of leaky cast iron ones ruining your engine. You can find more detailed information on stainless steel marine exhausts as well as independent articles written by marine surveyors on the pit falls of cast iron manifolds at stainlessmarineexhausts.co.uk.
Depending on boat, in order to prevent over-revving, and feel the full effect of its extra torque, this engine may need to carry a larger diameter or coarser pitch propeller.
